    Wrentham, MA - Helen (Kureis) Capone 81, of Wrentham, died peacefully, at her home, surrounded by her family, Saturday Oct. 3, 2020, following an illness. She was the beloved wife of Thomas E. "Tom" Capone, with whom she shared 29 years of marriage. Born August 26, 1939, in Brockton, a daughter of the late Gordon W. and Mary A. (Connor) Small, she was a former resident of Norfolk until moving to Wrentham in 1990.

    She was raised and educated in Westwood and was a 1957 graduate of Westwood High School. Helen was employed as a floral arranger for Franklin Florist and later was employed as a Secretary at both Newton-Wellesley and Southwood Community Hospitals.

    Helen treasured spending time with her family, scrapbooking, embroidery, reading and making cards.

    In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Diane Lang and her husband Thomas of California, Patricia Waitkevich of Foxboro, Mark Waitkevich and his wife Darlene of Plymouth, Sharon O'Neil and her husband Paul of Rehoboth, Stephen Waitkevich and his wife Wendy of Utah, Kevin Waitkevich and his wife Patty of Florida, Kenneth Waitkevich and his wife Jennifer of Grafton, and 2 stepdaughters Tara Jett and her husband Raymond of NC and Mitzie Fisher and her husband Jason of Maine, siblings, Susan Small of Foxboro, Margaret Naff of Florida and Cindy Kellner of New Hampshire.

    She was the sister of the late Kathy Connolly and Mary Jenkins. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

    Her funeral was held Thursday Oct. 8th, at 8AM at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home. A funeral Mass followed at St. Mary's Church 130 South St. Wrentham at 9AM.

    In Memory of Walter Waitkevich
    October 6, 1928 - September 30, 2021

    Olympia, Washington - Walter Alexander Waitkevich died September 30, 2021. He was a man well loved by many and respected for his candor and intelligence by all. He was born October 6, 1928 to Alexander Waitkevich and Magdalena (Matonis) Waitkevich on his family's farm in Norfolk, Massachusetts. He was the youngest of 6 children, all who have predeceased him.

    As a child, he worked on the farm and attended school in Norfolk and Walpole, Massachusetts. In 1944, at 16, he quit high school to join the Merchant Marines. He was discharged honorably from the Coast Guard in 1945 at the end of WWII and continued to sail for 4 more years. He returned to Norfolk and after a year, chose to enlist in the Army during the Korean Conflict. While waiting for deployment he fell in love with Edna Philbin and they married on April 26, 1952. He was discharged from the US Army Reserves in 1957.

    After discharge from the service, he worked for Bullikan Oil. In 1958 he went to work as a corrections officer until 1973 when he was made Acting Superintendent of Walpole State Prison during a time of tremendous upheaval.

    He moved with his family to Washington in 1978 and worked for the Department of Corrections as Security Chief from 1978-1981 and then as Inspector General until 1987. At that point, he became Captain of the Guard at Monroe Correctional Complex and lastly at Washington Corrections Center for Women.

    Walter received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University and later finished his Masters of Science degree from Northeastern as well. He was awarded the Alumni Award for Professional Promise, University College Award for professional achievement and he was honored by the Indigenous prison reform community in Washington for assisting to make sweat lodge participation accessible to native inmates.

    He was a member of the Washington Jail Commission, Washington State Corrections Standards Board, Chairman of the Massachusetts Interstate Correctional Compact and a member of the town of Norfolk, Massachusetts Advisory Board.

    After retirement he became a Thurston County Master Gardener. He did volunteer tax preparation and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club.

    In his later years, he continued to enjoy gardening and listening to the news. He was always ready for a discussion on a new Supreme Court decision or to discuss national politics. But best of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

    He will be remembered for his strength of character, his keen intelligence and his tenacity as well as his dedication and love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Waitkevich (Robert Jorgensen), Barbara Viola, (Joe) and Sandra Griggs (Robin) as well as 4 grandchildren, Joe, Katie, Annie and Jesse and a great granddaughter, Eliza who lit his world up in his final years.

    He will be interred with his wife, Edna at Tahoma National Cemetery on November 15, 2021 at 11am. The family would like to thank Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Providence Hospice, Thurston County Food Bank or SafePlace.

    November 26, 1936 - February 14, 2022


    Ed Waitkevich, Jr.

    Edmund Waitkevich Jr., 85, of Hernando, Fla., passed away Feb. 14, 2022 at Advent Hospital in Ocala, Fla.

    Ed was born in Norwood, son of the late Ada and Edmund Waitkevich Sr. Ed was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked as a police officer for the towns of Norfolk and Foxboro, owned Call & Wait Auto in Norfolk, and was also a volunteer firefighter in Norfolk.

    He moved to Hernando in 1992 and became a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where he gave his time as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also volunteered at the Family Resource Center in Hernando and was a Citrus County First Responder.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and his parents. Survivors include 10 children, Diane Lang (Thomas), Patricia Waitkevich, Mark Waitkevich (Darlene), Sharon O?Neil (Paul), Stephen Waitkevich (Wendy), Kevin Waitkevich (Patricia), and Kenneth Waitkevich (Jennifer), Jerrold MacFarland, Cheryl Maguire (Steve), and Harold MacFarland (Marc), in-laws Joan Caruso (Carl) and Jack O?Kane (Carol) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

    Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary?s Church, 58 Carpenter St., Foxboro. Interment to follow at Norfolk Cemetery, Norfolk.
